5/6 Band Notes
Dear Parents and Students:
I hope all of you are safe and doing well during this extended school shutdown. As you know, the governor canceled school for the duration of the school year yesterday. While this was a difficult decision for all of us to hear, we all know it is for the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
I write to you today to keep you informed of what steps we are taking as a music department as we approach the end of the school year.
Activities and Events:
Due to the closure, all activities and events are canceled. We have a team working on graduation plans and it is not known at this time what that will look like. We are looking at rescheduling some events into the summer. We are looking to reschedule Mamma Mia into July and we are checking on cast availability now. Other events such as the band banquet, ITS and other end-of-year activities may be rescheduled into the summer or may take place virtually based on state guidelines and how the pandemic is progressing.
The Disney Trip:
We have been working with our travel team to recuperate as much of our funds as possible. We have made steady progress and I am thrilled with the work our travel team has done on our behalf. Please keep in mind that this was a non-refundable trip. We started with no refunds, and then moved to some refunds and some credits and refunds. Over the past few weeks, our travel team was able to work with vendors and get all available refunds as monetary funds and not credits. Please know that some deposits and fees were not refundable. We are anticipating that all students and chaperones will receive at least 75% of the total trip cost refunded in the form of a check (no vouchers or credits). We do not know exact numbers or a timeline on when the funds will be available because most vendors are still closed due to the pandemic (including Disney). Once vendors reopen and can actually process the refunds and we have all refunds in-house at Maloney, we will process checks for each participant. We will notify you via ParentSquare and Remind when these check are ready – we anticipate these being ready sometime during the summer.
As we navigate these next few weeks and receive further guidance from local and state government, we will have more specific information on end-of-year plans, any rescheduled events and summer plans. Students are receiving information now about auditions, applications and sign-ups for activities starting next fall.
I do hope you are doing well and we look forward to seeing you soon!
