5/19 Band Notes

Dear Maloney Music Parents, Guardians, Boosters and Students:

 

I hope all of you are doing well and are safe and healthy! We miss all of you terribly and certainly hope to be our regular, active department very soon! I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate distance learning, the loss of our Disney trip and more. Despite not seeing you, we have been very active at school, planning our end of the year, designing our fall plans and events and making provisions for what may be a different start to the school year. There are still MANY unknowns at this point, but I wanted to fill you in on a few things.

 

Disney Trip

Our travel company (Perkins Travel Co.) has been amazing throughout this cancellation and refund process! Lisa at Perkins has worked tirelessly to contact vendors and work on our behalf. I am pleased to announce that Lisa has been able to provide a 100% refund to you and your family. All funds that we have paid to Perkins Travel will be refunded to us. The refund will be a check reimbursement to each family and there will be no credits or vouchers. There is a small amount of trip money that we expended as a department as we prepared for the trip that we cannot recuperate so you will be refunded the full amount of the trip less $10 dollars per person. Also, any insurance plans you may have purchased on your own for this trip are not refundable. While these amounts are confirmed through vendors, we do not have funds returned to us yet. We expect to be able to make this reimbursement at some point in June or July. We will communicate the process to you via email as soon as we receive the funds and are ready to process the checks.

 

The Fall Marching Show and the Season

We are thrilled to announce our fall marching show titled “Phoenix Rising.” We are excited to get back to playing and perform a show that will honor our first responders and front liners! As for the fall… we are planning a normal fall at this time. We are planning on summer percussion and guard practices, band camp and a fall marching season. While things may change this fall, we are prepared for most scenarios and are going to do what we can to stay safe and keep playing. The Home Show is on as scheduled at this time. We expect to hear more about what USBands shows will look like in the weeks and months to come.

 

Boosters

We have obviously canceled our meetings and activities for the school year. We will resume activities in August as we start band camp and the school year. Expect band meetings to start in August and full department meetings in September. At that point, if we are in any limitations or restricted capacity, we will resume meetings via Zoom. I have asked all officers to remain in current positions for the remainder of the year and through the start of the school year. Once we return to a state of normal and regular meetings, we can hold elections and other normal Booster business. If you are served on a committee, chair or board role, I would greatly appreciate it if you maintain that role for the time being. Please email me if there are any questions on this.

 

The End of the School Year

Normally, we would be performing like crazy right now and celebrating even more! While we cannot do a lot of what we would like to be doing, we have every intention of honoring our seniors. We will be announcing graduation plans next week and once get a bit closer to the end of the year, we will be looking at what we can do to celebrate. Regarding the Band Banquet - we have virtual, outdoor and conventional banquet options on the table and we will do whatever is safe to do and acceptable per state guidelines. More to come on this.

 

Mamma Mia!

The show is rescheduled to the week of July 6-12. We are still working out what this summer camp version of the musical production will look like and what the show/rehearsal schedule will be. No idea on what audiences will look like and we may not know that until much closer to the event. We are still working out the details on this and restrictions could prevent it from happening, but we are optimistic at this point that we will be able to get the cast together to run the show.

 

So… I do apologize for all of the lack of definite information. We are a department that prides ourselves on planning and organization. It is very difficult when there is really no way to plan anything in advance! Thanks for your understanding and overall support. We can’t wait to see everyone again soon!
